Trio Variations was commissioned by Constance Cone as a birthday gift to her husband Mike. The work is a set of variations based on a melody derived from those letters in the name "Michael McKay Cone" which correspond to musical notes. The work was premiered in a private concert at the Cone residence in Philadelphia in 2009 by Juliette Kang, violin; Burchard Tang, viola; and Thomas Kraines, cello.
